Is Getting There Half the Fun?

It turns out that getting there probably is not half the fun but it certainly makes the fun happen.  A long time ago Megan and I decided in fact that it is so difficult to move a family of 5 - that our major vacation would be for two weeks to make it worth the effort.  Otherwise, when you are unpacking you are thinking about re-packing and there is hardly enough time to dis-engage.  Budgetary constraints drove us to a shorter stay than normal but we will milk it for all its worth.

Last night we loaded up.  Megan is the packer in chief.  She can get more into the back of our van than most people can get into a full-size semi trailer.

Down the road we went with little problems.

We made it to our vacation house and the girls discovered that there were birds to watch just outside the kitchen window.

Mom started dinner and Emily got into crafts

After dinner we made our way to the beach.  This is the place, the Grand Strand.  We have a lot of memories here and this week we plan to make a lot more.  It is big and commercial and for some reason we love it.  And this year the waves continue to break gently on this shore unlike the harsh currents on our own outer banks (not sure why).

A few years ago I wrote a blog entry entitled "Long shadows and tidal pools."  It is our way, and tonight we took advantage of both - and finished just ahead of the evening showers.

Once again we are together, and once again that is all that we seem to need to have great days and great nights but memories seem to flow easier when we are traveling and blogging.  We are setting in here for a week and stay tuned for lots of great times in the Davis family.
