Air Boat

We did a lot of things in Myrtle Beach (everyone always does there). One thing that we had never done before was an airboat tour. We took the tour for the experience but we ended up getting a much fuller understanding of the history of an area that we were already fascinated with, Hunnington Beach, Brookgreen Gardens, and Atalaya Castle.

We learned that the entire area was rice plantations. In fact, we were told that until the abolition of slavery over half of the world's rice production came from Murrells Inlet, South Carolina - who knew?

Today wild rice still grows everywhere. We ran over a bunch of it. Fun and informative; this was one of the hi-lights of our trip.
