Old Man River Delivers

Today we went tubing. The girls wanted to be in the river more so we went at it. We went to this place:

Okay, just a little rant here.  I do this just about every time we go on vacation.  Last year it was about penny presses - this time its tubing.  Now, if your Grand Pappy farmed some mountain land up next to a creek you will want to listen to this.  First thing you do is build you a little building like the one above. Next, you build you a sidewalk down to the creek.  My guess is that this should cost you about $2000 or just pizza and beer if you can talk some buddies into helping you do it.

Next you order you some plastic tubes (they will even put your name right on them).  Wal-mart sells this very tube for $8.00 around here so I'm guessing that the production cost on them is about $3.00 each.  Then you go to the school auction in the summer and buy some of these short buses:

Now, if you are real industrious you can go in the back of that other building that you built and build you one of these.  You will make yet more money:

Now, the reason I say all of this is because in that gravel parking lot where we parked our car there was at least another 200 or 300 other cars.  Each of those cars has at least 2.3 people in them according the averages. My guess is that these cars turn over at least once in a day.

Yep, if you are like me you are doing the math.  Each tuber pays $15.00 or $12.00 if you are a little kid.  Now suppose only 750 people come through in a day.  You getting the picture? Even if you figure in that this is only a three month enterprise - you are over a $10,000 in daily cash flow.

I don't know this business.  I am certain there are many more expenses that I am aware of, but with a $10,000 daily cash flow, it is very hard not to make money.

I am not complaining, I am applauding.  I ever more love to see someone make something out of nothing.  Take a bow guys - I admire you.  If you are not making money don't tell us - we all think you are getting filthy rich.

With that out of the way: We went tubing:

The photos are not very clear because Megan bought a little plastic packet for the iphone.  It worked but it does take a little while to learn to use it.  You will find that they are fuzzy especially on one end.  Sorry for that.

Again: We went tubing . . . the water was cold, and the fellowship was warm.

Olivia thought she saw a snake in the water - quite disturbing to her.

There was a soothing rhythm to it

We stopped to play a little

The rock collector found a big one

Addison braved the "cliff dive"

This is Olivia on the rope swing

We rode the last leg of the journey in beautiful scenery

After a while we came to the exit ramp. One of the afore mentioned little buses took us back to the base camp.

Then we had a picnic

Next, mom and the big girls went on a quicker ride down the river just as I comes out of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.  Emily was not allowed on this ride so we hung out together.

Megan and the girls had to ride the short bus to the drop site this time.  It would end at the base camp.

The girls found another swinging rope.  This time it was Addison.

This leg of the river was beautiful too.

Meanwhile, Addison and I have to pass the time

So, there you have it.  The mountains delivered again. Beauty, majesty, God's Creation, family time, and some thoughts about economics to boot.  What more could anyone want.
