And Away We Go - Costa Rica (Second Try)

We got off to a relatively leisurely start to the second leg of our trip. We took the shuttle to the airport and got through check-in in less than 45 minutes including checked baggage. We all ate breakfast at Chick-fil-a (which rivaled the FAA in line length) but it was great and it was their pleasure to serve us. This time we were at our gate in plenty of time but Emily was feeling quite sick.

We were assigned a new gate across the airport just a few minutes before boarding. Emily was still uneasy but stable. When we got underway Emily went to sleep.

One thing we didn't realize is that directions to places (like our VRBO rental) don't use addresses. Instead of 102 Ferret Run Lane it might be - go to Brices Creek and turn near the sharp turn and look left. The address given - freaked Google Maps out and it took us nowhere near our rental. Thankfully we quickly ran into an ex-pat that helped us find it - leading the way. By now it was quite dark and late and when we went to the lockbox, it would not open. Almost all of us were starting to have breakdowns over a trip that seemed to never end. We went down the road to get a signal to email the owner and then found a second code in the paperwork. We came back and tried the new code and it worked. FINALLY we were here and in our home for the next four days.

This house is quite unique and we all like - more photos to come.

The house we found when we arrived was very unique - and we liked it. Indoor-outdoor living for sure. Here are a few hi-lites.

The dinning area was on an elevated porch

The kitchen and great room has 4 doors that open on each side for ventilation but it still gets hot around mid- morning until the afternoon showers (2 PM like clockwork). All bedrooms had individually controlled air conditioning.

All of the bedrooms open onto this central feature and everyone loves it. It seems a little cold to me unless the sun is out. If you look above the pool roof you can see a second roof. That is the roof to the hot tub area.

You walk through this meandering path through a thickit - still in the house and most of it under roof and it is beautiful.

You arrive at the hot tub and also an outdoor shower (not shown)

If you need to do laundry - it is steeply up from the hot tube room (again all under roof)

There are three bathrooms. Your basic showers were zero grade and surrounded by plants.

This is the upper part of the house. We mostly park at the bottom of the house because the grade on the driveway was a challenge for our rental car. It is also challenging to back the car down such a steep grade.

The mountains and hills here are no joke - Megan has mostly driven because she has found that she gets much less motion sick behind the wheel. Also, motorcycles outnumber cars by a good bit - not the kind we have in the US but the kind like the Suzuki I drove at my friend's house in the sand field across from his house when I was little.

This is the view of the house from the bottom of hill. You can see our rental car which is also interesting to me. This is a Toyota car but not anything you would find in the US. This is considered a luxury car here but would be a very basic car in the US but this far it has served us well.

This little path in the front yard area leads to the creek and an area to hang out.

We are in a development of about 5 houses and this was in the commons area (although we never encountered anyone else). I took this picture because you have to come to Costa Rica to find a real slide and one that's not made by Fischer Price.
