Costa Rica - Theatre

Trying to get the lay of the land in San Jose is not so easy. The drivability of the city is questionable, just like New York and a few other American cities. So, we Uber. We went first to the Costa Rica National Theatre. A very ornate building - built with taxpayer dollars to attract dignitaries and heads of state to Costa Rica in the early 1800's.

The top level seated the commoners and since it was built with tax dollars they could not be excluded but they sat on benches instead of seats but could only enter from side doors that went only to the third balcony. They were not allowed in the lobby areas.

We were surprised to find various characters to lead us through our tour. This man was the original manager of the theatre

This floor can be lowered and raised. To this day it is raised about 4 feet to accommodate the inauguration of the new president every 4 years.

We encountered parts of the upper and lower lobby being meticulously restored

These were our guides both playing the part of people alive during the time that the theatre was built.

This was the only sculpture that was produced by an artist from Costa Rica. All others pieces of art in the theatre came from Italy.

We stopped and got drinks from an old friend

We ordered and Uber for 5. We got an Uber with 4 seats. Emily sat on mom's lap

An interesting tree I saw on the way home in a city park

Emily Grace and I spent a while in the pool and the hot tub but I forgot to bring my phone - so no pictures of us

Shortly after showering after a swim we felt the earth move and loud bang. No one knew what it was thinking mostly that it was an explosion until Addison found this notice on her phone

As it turns out my girls (for the most part) are no fans of the big cities. They didn't want to go back out tonight so Megan and I walked around in hopes of finding some fine foods for dinner within walking distance. Well, we ended up with these exotic foods.

So, to recap: Theatre - American Fast Food - Swim - Earthquake - American Fast Food
These are the best of times
