It was only 2 years ago that we took our first two week vacation. We tried it because on our single week vacations we caught ourselves planning how to pack up as we were unpacking.
We found that two weeks gives us time to enjoy the vacation destination and, most importantly, it gives us enough time to disengage from our everyday world.
It is not an escape as much as it is the opportunity to fix our gaze on our family. We never entirely disengage but we try - and our family is better for it. It is important to remember this today because this moment below occurred on a day when we would have been packing - instead we remember this moment and all of the others that happened today and will happen this week.
Many people ask how we can go somewhere for two whole weeks, now we think, how could we not? We still go on one week trips, but one time a year, at least at this stage of our lives, we try to get away for two weeks. We find that it is not only twice as long - it is also twice as important and twice as much fun.
